K-6 Sample Structure for Distance Learning

 

The Hybrid models below make use of a digital platform, and paper packets as needed.

 

NOTE:  Learning will not be synchronous (Teachers and students will not be in the same digital space at the same time for the lesson).  Students and families will engage in the learning at times that suit them best during the day.

K-6 Sample Structure – Hybrid Model

Focus is ELA and math.

ELA Daily Student Work

(K-2: 1 hour daily; 3-6: 1 hour daily)

Math Daily Student Work

(K-6: 30-60 minutes daily)

K-2: Foundational Skills & Reading Fluency

30 minutes of foundational skills practice & new learning with videos of phonics instruction

15 minutes of reading practice with decodable readers (K/1) and/or fluency packets (2nd grade)

Students record themselves reading and have to upload to a designated site

 

3-6: Reading Fluency Practice

20 minutes of reading fluency practice with grade-level fluency packets

Students record themselves reading and have to upload to a designated site

 

Core Reading

K-2: 20-30 minutes of reading grade-level texts and discussing/writing responses to text-dependent questions with the support of an adult

Students submit their work digitally to a designated site

3-6: 40 minutes of reading grade-level texts and responding to text-dependent questions provided. 

Students submit their work digitally to a designated site

 

K-6: Warm Up

5-10 minutes of working through a task, preferably open-ended requiring mathematical reasoning and explanation (e.g. Which One Doesn’t Belong?)

Students upload picture(s) of work or respond to prompts to designated site or share via class online meeting

 

K-6: Math Concept Building

10-20 minutes of content building through videos, model building, tasks, presentations (Google Slides, Power Point, etc.), online collaboration

10-15 minutes of guided practice using online class meetings, worksheets, math learning websites

Students upload work or respond to prompts via designated site

 

K-6: Math Fluency Practice

10-20 minutes of math fluency practice with games, worksheets, and/or other materials





 

Teacher Role

Ensure students have the materials they need to engage in learning

Develop/find videos of instruction and/or other digital materials for students to utilize for learning

Convene webinars/digital meetings with students to support them on their work

Monitor and review student work submitted and provide feedback to students 

Communicate with groups or individuals to check-in on student work and provide assistance

Create guidance for families to help them support their student through the assignments

Create packets, handouts, and physical assignments from curriculum materials and consumables to distribute to students, as needed. Classroom teachers will work with their supervisor to determine how paper packets will be made and distributed to students who need them.
